International Nurses Day 2024

07 May 2024

Nursing and nurses are synonymous with the work we do here at Right at Home. This International Nurses Day, we would like to take a moment to thank every one of our nursing staff across the Right at Home network. Every day, Right at Home nursing staff support hundreds of Right at Home clients nationwide to provide the right care, right at home™.

Nursing Governance in Australia

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) works to ensure that Australia’s nurses and midwives are suitably trained, qualified, and safe to practise. At Right at Home, we employ our nurses and caregivers directly, ensuring they are properly screened, adequately trained, and insured before entering your home. Our registered nurses are responsible for supervising our caregivers, ensuring that you are receiving quality care as per your custom care plan and home care agreement. We provide our people with insurance cover and ongoing professional development and training to ensure that we provide the best possible care.

The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme requires that information about every registered health practitioner in Australia is published on a single national register of practitioners.

The NMBA undertakes functions as set by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (the National Law), as in force in each state and territory. The NMBA regulates the practice of nursing in Australia, and one of its key roles is to protect the public. The NMBA does this by developing standards, codes and guidelines which together establish the requirements for professional and safe practice by nurses in Australia.

In 2012, NMBA began publishing quarterly data profiling Australia’s nursing and midwifery workforce, including several statistical breakdowns about registrants. The NMBA’s latest report (from 1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023) found that there are 450,179 General Nurses practicing in Australia.

As you can see, nurses make up a significant portion of the health care system and work according to strict standards. Without their expertise, we would not be able to provide the in-home care services we offer.

Nurses at Right at Home

With our Right at Home RightCare™ system, nurses are hired in care management roles as well as nursing care roles. In care management roles, our nurses  oversee the finalisation of the care plan and client assessments and are focussed on maintaining quality care services designed around our clients assessed needs. Our nurses are central to the quality care services that we deliver and we appreciate their efforts every day!

If you or someone you love needs nursing care at home, we are here to help.
